Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic / single-gene disorders (PGT-M) is a diagnostic test that provides a means of dramatically reducing the risk of a couple passing on a specific inherited single-gene disorder to their child before an actual pregnancy establishment.
This test is carried out by analyzing the genotype of biopsies taken from embryos of high-risk candidate couples during the process of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
Before starting the IVF procedure, molecular tests should be done for a high-risk genetic disease in the family.
